The heart and great blood vessels
Cardiovascular system is the first system to develop and start functioning in the embryo. It is a broad area of study, covering the heart and blood vessels development as well as the lymphatic as some text book might include. This studies will concentrate on the development of the heart and blood vessels which are: arteries and veins as seen in this figure
This system starts developing during the third embryonic week form a pair lateral endocardial tubes and another paired dorsal tubes on each side of developing neural tube through the process of vasculogenesis and angiogenesis .
